Getting to the heart of what matters in life
TODAY'S FEATURE: RANDY JOHNSON
Randy Johnson doesn't talk much, and he certainly doesn't talk much about his faith. However, he did share with Sports Spectrum magazine how he feels about the importance of faith in his life.
"The greatest feeling I get playing baseball right now is knowing that I can go out every fifth day and be a warrior for the Lord. I can go out behind the mound and crouch down and say my prayer and then be a very aggressive, warrior-like pitcher, glorifying him in that sense. I'm sure a lot of people believe in the Lord, but they're not committed to him-they haven't given their life to him. Whether they're committed to Jesus Christ or not, it's gonna be important to them before they die to make that decision. We're talking eternal life-we're talking forever."
Thanks to John for the forward.

I remember watching a local station just after the Mariners clinched their first playoff spot (1995? Sorry, the memory isn't as spry as it used to be). Randy made a point of mentioning his faith in Jesus Christ (I'm afraid I don't remember the exact quote--I was just flabbergasted to hear it! I'd had no idea that he was a Christian) and I couldn't wait to see what the news would make of it. Silly me! They didn't show that part at all. Only because I was watching the immediate post game coverage at all, did I get to see it.

I just love it when a Christian athlete uses the momentary spotlight to give glory to God in a tasteful way. I'm not sure how the world takes it; maybe they just think it is quaint and a weak spot in a strong hero. But as for me, I love a good testimony.
