Success

Grace talks about Measuring Success in a church organization.

Her last two paragraphs provide a good summary, although I suggest you go read her post:

So there you go, lots of people giving their money and time to contribute to the smooth operation and potential influence of the organization.

What do you think?

I read recently — on a forum made up mostly of people from my denomination — that ours is a revival movement that organized itself into an institution. The thought was that the institution had killed the revival movement.

It doesn’t give me any joy to agree with this assessment. In fact, I’ve been crying inside for days since I read that and realized it was true.

My observation is that the whole organization is now aimed at sustaining itself instead of doing the mission. It’s breaking my heart. My observation squares pretty well with what Grace is saying.

Am I wrong? I want to be wrong.
