My Workspace

The good folks at the Logos Bible Software Blog have encouraged users to share their workspaces. I will share one with you that I’m just trying out. It is based on Rick Brannan‘s workspace, which he shared earlier.

and you can see a hi-res version of the screenshot. Make sure you zoom all the way in on the hi-res version.

Block 1 is for Greek texts. The main one I use is the NA27 from the German Bible Society, since it has the full textual apparatus. I also have at the ready the NRSV reverse interlinear and the OpenText NT, which has all the syntactical structure marked. I have several other Greek texts available, but lots of them are TR, or in other words, rather wuffless.

Block 2 is for English texts. As you can see by the tabs, I have the NRSV on top, with the ESV and the NET Bible also ready to view. All the texts, Greek and English, are linked together; when one moves, they all move. I have at least twenty English versions.

Block 3 contains the NA27 apparatus and Metzger’s textual commentary.

Block 4 is for everything else. Greek lexica and grammars. Books I’m reading or referring to. You know. Currently you can see BAGD3, Fee’s NT Exegesis, and graphical clause analysis for the OpenText NT. It isn’t uncommon for me to have more than a dozen books open on the right side of the screen.

The OpenText graphical analysis book is pretty interesting in itself. That will be a story for another day. For now, here is a little cap of some detail:

OK, well you get the idea. That doesn’t show up too well, I’m sure. This resource is about tagging words and word groups with syntactic information, not morphological information like most of the Greek NTs do. Syntax searches are a thing of beauty. I’m only beginning to scratch the surface on that stuff.

I absolutely love Logos. I was a beta tester many, many years ago — back in the Win 3.1 days — and have enjoyed every minute of the ride. Every day I learn to use it a little better.

I’d be interested in seeing how others use Logos
